About Moon Cakes

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Cindy Ng The eighth Chinese mid-lunar moon marks the Moon’s birthday and is believed to be the only night of the year when the moon appears perfectly round. At the time of the Moon Festival, special moon-viewing parties are held with much wine and feasting, and poems composed to the moon. Moon cakes are generally packaged in boxes of four cakes and are a traditional gift from one family to another. The reason why moon cakes are so meaningful goes back to the 14th century when China was overrun by the Mongol invaders who ruled the country in a cruel and oppressive fashion. The women of the households devised a clever way to organize an uprising. They inserted messages in the filling of the moon cakes given and received during the Moon Festival, conveying secret instructions to patriots who could be depended on to join in the struggle that ended in war and liberation. Moon cakes are not easy to make, as special, elaborately carved wooden mounds have to be used to shape them. Most Westerners find the filling made from solid lotus seed paste unpalatable, especially with the salted egg yolk in its center. If possible, try to find moon cakes with a filling of preserved melon and melon seeds. For anyone with a sweet tooth this is irresistible, especially when cut into thin wedges and nibbled while drinking clear, fragrant Chinese tea. It is the packaging of moon cakes that makes them tempting, usually square red and gold tins with Chinese characters and motifs printed on them, and containing four individually wrapped cakes. For the determined cook, the pastry should be very rich and preferably made with at least a proportion of lard. Some popular fillings are candied fruits or sweetened lotus seed paste. Wedding Movie Madness

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Samantha Taylor I love nothing more than to spend an afternoon or evening watching my favorite wedding movies. It may not be my fiances favorite pastime, but he is generally a good sport about it. He may not admit it, but he can recite certain scenes from My Best Friend’s Wedding off the top of his head. Quite a few excellent wedding movies have been released in the last couple years, and these are some of my favorites. Meet the Parents has become one of my all-time faves. It was released back in 2000, and stars the ever-so-funny Ben Stiller. The premise is typical of many wedding movies; a nervous young man is introduced to his future in-laws. What makes this movie so excitingly funny is the role of prospective Father-in-Law, played by Robert DeNiro. The dynamic that plays out between Stiller and DeNiro is unforgettable. Oh, the hilarity of it all! Meet the Fockers is a sequel to the above mentioned, and was released in 2004. This time around we have the pleasure of meeting the parents of Ben Stiller’s character, Greg Focker. His parents are played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand, both of whom deliver unforgettable roles. They stand in stark contrast to the bride’s parents from the previous film. While the bride’s parents are somewhat conservative and stuffy, the parents of the groom are new-age leftists. These two films have become my all-time favorite wedding movies. Sooo funny! The Corpse Bride is another highly entertaining movie with a wedding theme. This animated masterpiece was released to critical acclaim in 2005. It is quirky in the way that all Tim Burton films are, and it has some of my favorite stars doing voice-over work. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter play the lead roles. The premise goes something like this; a young man is having difficulty with his lines during his wedding rehearsal. He strays off into the forest to practice alone. He nails his lines perfectly, and places the ring on a fallen tree branchor so he thinks. It turns out that the fallen tree branch was actually the decrepit finger of the Corpse Bride, who has risen from the dead and claims to be his legal bride. Even your boyfriend will love it! Samantha Taylor is dreading her fiances bachelor party. When she is not trying to convince him to watch yet another wedding-themed movie, she writes for yourwedding101.com an informative and insightful wedding planning guide with information about wedding speeches, ethnic wedding traditions, honeymoon destinations and more. Changing The Face Of Things Through Plastic Nose Job Surgery

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Michelle Bery To look at television or read the latest magazines, you would think that plastic nose job surgery is as common as taking your shirts in to be dry cleaned. It almost seems as if everyone is having some sort of plastic surgery these days. And the makeover shows that cover the airways validate this position. When people dont like something about their faces or their bodies a visit to a plastic surgeon can erase the flaw. One of the most common procedures Rhinoplasty, or plastic nose job surgery can probably attribute its popularity to just how much it changes the look of the face. For someone whose nose has dominated their features for most of their life, plastic nose job surgery can mean a whole new appearance. It can be a powerful experience. Plastic nose job surgery, however just like any elective surgeries should not be entered into lightly. Surgery, of any kind, can be risky so its important youve accurately weighed the risks against the rewards. Be sure that youre doing the surgery for the right reasons; to make yourself happy, not someone else. When youre confident that you want to proceed with plastic nose job surgery then its time to find the appropriate doctor. Plastic surgeons have offices in every city and town across the country. This does not mean that they are all equally skilled or reputable. Do your homework when it comes to the doctor performing your plastic nose job surgery. Get referrals from other medical professionals whom you trust; get recommendations from people who have been through a plastic nose job surgery; and thoroughly check the credentials of each and every doctor you are considering. Never make a decision about plastic nose job surgery based on cost alone. Having paid an inexpensive price for surgery will mean little if you have problems afterwards. Once youve found the plastic surgeon that has the experience, the reputation, and, most importantly, makes you feel comfortable and well-informed, you will have several pre-surgical consultations. At this time, the surgeon will assess your nose and you will make a determination together about how you want to proceed. Plastic nose job surgery should bring you the results you and your doctor envisioned together. Once your plastic nose job surgery is complete you will have some recovery time; swelling, bruising, and some bleeding are not uncommon. Be sure to implicitly follow the instructions from your surgeons office regarding activity levels following surgery. You may feel great a couple of days later but that doesnt mean you should be running marathons. Premature activity will only serve to complicate your healing. With the proper amount of research and a reputable, skilled surgeon, you will finally have the nose you should have been born with through plastic nose job surgery. Interest Only Loan Risk

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eric_Morris]Eric Morris Interest only loans are loans that give you an option to pay just the interest on the loan for an initial period of repayment, say 5 years or 10 years. It also gives the option of paying the interest plus as much principal as you want. There are many advantages of interest only loans. They offer flexibility to repay as much principle as you want. The amount that is not repaid as principle every month can be reinvested elsewhere at higher returns. The returns can be used to pay off the loan when the loan is amortized after the interest-only period. Or, it can be used to pay off another mortgage or a high interest debt like credit cards. Another advantage is the lower initial payment enables you to qualify for a higher loan amount or another loan. Interest only loans are suitable for people who are expecting an increase in the income in coming years, and for people whose income is in the form of indefinite bonuses and commissions. It is also good for people who invest the savings made on interest-only loans properly. However, there are also some risks involved with interest only loans. The interest rate may go up considerably after the interest-only period, significantly increasing the payments to be. This is because most interest only loans are based on adjustable rate mortgages. Another possible risk is people trying to sell the home they mortgaged to repay the loan. The price of the house may not appreciate as much as expected, or it may even come down in value, making the sale and repayment difficult. Loss of income, slump in the economy and other unexpected contingencies are also some things to be considered while going for an interest only loan. Accelerated Bachelors Degrees

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Eric Morris Accelerated bachelors degree programs are designed to accommodate busy adults who have not earned their bachelors degree. An accelerated bachelors degree course may last one to two years. Many colleges and universities are offering this option to working people who are too busy to attend regular classes. The cost of an accelerated bachelor degree program can range from $15,000 to $25,000. You can browse the Internet for colleges or universities that offer this program in order to find out the specific fees, courses, subjects, duration, etc. You can e-mail or call these institutions for more information, or request a catalog through the mail. Most programs entail compulsory attendance of classes and study groups periodically, which may be one night for each per week. Since attendance for classes and study groups is not optional, youll need to have a prescribed percentage of attendance, somewhere between 60%-70%, to be able to take your final tests. Entrance requirements for an accelerated bachelor degree program may include proof of high school graduation or a GED (general educational development) certificate, a minimum of 60 college credits with a GPA (grade point average) of 2.0 or higher, and a minimum of two years of practical work experience. Business administration, technology management and human relations are some of the most common courses offered by programs like this but there are a host of other courses too, including health care, education, social and behavioral science, and e-Commerce. So its best to do a little research while keeping in mind your interests, line of work and career before making any decisions. Los Angeles Divorce Attorneys

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Kent Pinkerton Given the high profile of some of the residents of Los Angeles, which include Hollywood actors, it can be expected that, when these people go through a divorce, they can have access to some of the best family lawyers. This is because given the complexities that would be involved in a divorce between people who have huge resources that need to be divided, the lawyers involved in these cases need to be really skilled in handling divorce cases. In addition to this, the messy custody battles that often characterize divorce cases between high profile personalities also require a good amount of skill from lawyers. However, this does not mean that only high profile personalities can have access to good divorce or family lawyers in Los Angeles. This is because there are a number of sources or options from which people can gain access to good divorce lawyers. Some options There are number of good sources of competent family lawyers that people can tap to help them get the right lawyer for their needs. One of these is to ask friends or relatives if they know a good divorce lawyer, which can give people access to first-hand information on how a specific lawyer handles divorce cases from people who have used the services of said lawyer during their own divorce. Another good source is to ask the local bar association about their members who specialize in family law. Apart from these, legal aid societies can also provide a good source of competent family lawyers, as there are some very good lawyers who volunteer in these societies. Lastly and more importantly, one of the best sources of a competent divorce lawyer is a person’s own research, which includes research on the lawyers he is considering with regard to his experience, his record, his fees, and his reputation. This research can be a great way to accurately assess the capabilities of a divorce lawyer. People do not need to be high profile Hollywood actors to access some of the best divorce lawyers in Los Angeles. This is because the right amount of research and employing the right “canvassing” strategy can help the average person gain access to some of the best sources of competent and highly skilled family lawyers in Los Angeles. Garden Art Ideas — How to Make Your Planters Into Beautiful Garden Art

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Anne Clarke Garden stores have so many different types of garden art for your to choose from there are beautiful water features like ponds and fountains, as well as statues, wind chimes, birdhouses, and so much more. But why not go ahead and make your own garden art? Why not make sure that your garden fully reflects your own personality, and nobody elses? When it comes to making your own garden art, there are so many different possibilities as to what you can do that it can almost be overwhelming. That is why I am going to focus on just one type of garden art in this article: planters. Check out these fun and unique ideas for your garden pots and planters: The Spilt Planter Add a little humor to your garden with a spilt planter. Find an ordinary pot or barrel and tip it on its side in your garden. Fill the planter part way with soil, and then spread the rest out in front of it as though it has spilled out. Choose a few of your favorite flowers and plant them in the spilled-out soil. Warning: this fun and whimsical idea is one that may have do-gooders coming up and trying to fix the spill until they see that the plants are actually planted in the ground. Bathtub Planter Find a bathtub (a clawfoot tub, preferably) at a thrift store, garage store, or even from your remodeled bathroom. Fill her up with good soil and then plant a small garden! It can also be fun to use a bathtub as a pond. It is even possible to find a way to hook your garden hose up so that you can have water coming out of the bathtub waterspout. Thrift Stores Gems There are many other things that plants can be planted into (besides planters and pots and bathtubs). Why not go to an antique shop or a thrift store and see what you can find! You can plant a pair of cacti in a pair of cowboy boots. Why not plat a snapdragon in a tea cup? You can use vases, pots and pans, tires, helmets, and so many other things as planters. You may not know what item can double as a perfect garden planter until you go out and find it. Pottery By Your Own Hand Why not sign up for a pottery class and make your very own planter! Granted, you may make a pot that is only large enough for one petunia, but it is so much fun to create your own shapes and to glaze your pot in whatever color you want. Homemade pots with a flower in each make excellent gifts, as well. Pot makeovers If you already have a pot that you like, why not just dress it up a bit? Go ahead and glue a ribbon around the rim or even add sequins, buttons, scrabble letters, or other items! You can also completely makeover a pot you just need some Mod Podge (a wonderful, glue-like substance) and some magazines. Cut or rip out some favorite pictures from magazines (or use photographs, newspaper, brown paper bags, tissue paper, etc.) and Mod Podge them all over your pot. Use a weather-proofing finishing spray to top it off. (If you are using a terra cotta pot or another pot that breathes and is not glazed, be sure that you heavily coat the pot with Mod Podge before you add your pictures, and consider placing another planter inside the pot to keep the magazine pictures from puckering when you water your plant. Buddies

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Gene Simmons I have a very special granddaughter. Well actually, I have four of them but well just limit our discussion to one of them today - the four-year-old. I am also fortunate to have a very special mother. Mom and my granddaughter (well just refer to her as K) have a very special relationship. It started the moment K came into our lives. Even though Mom was nearly 90, K was immediately attracted to her. Actually, attracted doesnt adequately describe their relationship. It was more like they were long lost buddies who had been reunited after many, many years. It didnt make any difference who else was around. The instant K walked in the door, shed always head straight to Grandma. Thats what she would call Mom instead of Great Grandma. They would talk and play dollies. Talk and touch and smile and just be happy. They were together and thats all that counted. When the weather was nice and Mom was able to be outside on the patio, K would take her dollies outside just so she could be close to Grandma. And yes, they would talk and smile and be happy. Now that Im living several hundred miles away, Im not there to enjoy this interaction between K and her Great Grandma. But I understand that they are still great buddies. If K is having a bit of a bad day, she and Mom will talk and it wont be long until K is feeling much better about whatever is happening in her young world. If K isnt feeling well, Mom is there to give hugs, rubs or whatever it takes to help the healing process. Most of the time though, I think its the love thats doing the healing. Love really is a potent medicine, you know. Buddies. Talking and smiling and loving. You just know there is a lot of love shared between K and her Great Grandma. What a wonderful relationship between two people separated in age by almost ninety years. I like to hear about it. I enjoy hearing the nice things K tells her dad about this wonderful, continuing relationship and the nice things her Great Grandma does for her. It really is special. Very special. And Im sure that Mom is enjoying it too. Its not like its a burdensome responsibility watching over a four year old child. After all, theyre buddies. Always have been always will be. Im sure of that. The date on Moms death certificate is May 5th, 2004. Maybe it should be re-titled to New Life certificate instead. It seems more appropriate somehow. PS: I understand from K that Mom no longer needs her wheelchair. Isnt that great? Liposuction Complications

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Arindam Chattopadhyaya Liposuction is a procedure to remove unwanted fat from patient-specified areas of the body. Unwanted fat from patient-specified areas of the body can be removed using Liposuction. Liposuction is a kind of surgery. Like any surgical procedure, there are temporary and minor side effects. This minor surgical procedure also has risks and complications. The surgeon explains all associated risks to the patient. Patients need to understand all the risks. A form need to be signed by the patient before operation. Once the consent form is signed, an appointment for the operation is given. The side effects or adverse effects of Liposuction are described below. An adverse effect is an undesired effect, which is obtained because of surgery, use of a medical device, or medical error (errors due to inexperienced clinicians, extremes of age, complex and critical care, or wrong approaches being applied) or therapy. Cannula is a tool used in this surgical procedure. Due to the movement of is Liposuction tool, some bruising may takes place which, although painful in the short term, fades within a few weeks time. Any swelling in the area due to bruising subsides within a month or two. Any incision is made on the skin, breaks the skin open and creates a wound. This opening may be stitched together, or left to clot so that it heals automatically. The wound heals by forming a new skin which joins the opening. The new skin that is formed is slightly different in color to the adjoining skin, and thus creates a scar. The scars may disappear over time, sometimes few years, or it may remain forever. The pain felt due to the wound is normally temporary and can be controlled by simple OTC medications. Patient feels numbness in the affected area due to application of anesthesia. Pulmonary emboli may happen if during liposuction fat pieces travels to lungs accidentally. It is an emergency situation as patient will have severe breathing problem. Work Injury Claim - Easy If You Make It!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Mohammad Latif If you had an accident at work, its consequences can get very complicated. A work injury claim can help if it disables and makes you less useful as an employee to the company. The recovery takes time and your co-workers can react in different ways when they have more work to do because of your health problems. They may be unhappy with you slowing their work or they may think that you’re practically being lazy and your injury is just an excuse so you needn’t work harder. So your situation at work gets worse, even though it’s not your fault that you’re suffering from an accident. Accidents do occur and you shouldn’t be punished for it. The injury may result in smaller earnings, you can be demoted, transferred to other tasks or lose a future chance of promotion. Not to mention that one day you may hear from your boss, the time has come for you depart from the company and suddenly you are left with nothing. Are You Going To Get Sacked? On the other hand, you realise you can make a work injury claim. But you also think about it not being fair on the company and could jeopardise your relationship within. However a work accident claim can solve many issues brought to hand. Such as stating the obvious financial, the reason why we go to work. To get paid! The injury assessment and medical report, once obtained from a medical specialist will determine the worth of your compensation claim. It could also bring to light areas at work that are dangerous to work and will help the company to improve and prevent further accident injuries. It may also prove that your injury is more serious than your co-workers and bosses think. If the accident was not your fault, your company should bear all the consequences, as they haven’t obeyed the Health & Safety Regulations. A workplace accident claim can also compensate for many personal problems following your injury at work - because we can’t forget that your life doesn’t end at work as it affects your everyday life, both personal and social. I Had An Accident At Work - What Should I Do? There are certain procedures and things you should do if you want to make a compensation claim for a workplace injury. At the very beginning, your injury should be recorded in the company’s accident book. If your firm has more than 10 employees, the presence of such book is required by law. If for some reason the accident book is not available, you should advise your boss with a description of the accident and any injuries sustained. If there were any witnesses to the accident, they should add their knowledge of detail to the record. You should also be asked to write down a detailed version of the entire situation - it’s good to prepare it as soon as possible, so you won’t forget anything and you will have it ready for any further proceedings. If you can, take photos of the workplace area plus any machines that were involved. Then you should visit your doctor, so he or she could make a medical entry concerning your injury. If the injury is serious enough to make you unable to work, you should organise your statutory sick pay with your employer. It could also be useful for your accident injury claim to at least recover your earnings. Of course, if you want to claim your compensation, the best you can do is to contact an accident solicitor, who will advise and guide you through the process of making a claim. Quality accident solicitor’s services are free, based on a ‘No Win No Fee’ policy, which means that regardless of the claim’s final result, you don’t pay anything. On the other hand if you win, you get 100% of your workplace injury compensation. If you have any questions or doubts about proceeding you should contact one today! But can you see any reason why you shouldn’t use a professional and a 100% free based service that can bring you compensation for your accident at work?
