Walking for Fat Loss?

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Jesse Cannone With obesity and disease increasing dramatically, many fitness experts are recommending walking for weight loss and fitness. Some are even going so far as saying that walking is the best way to burn fat and lose weight. I strongly disagree with this and am going to show you why walking is NOT effective at burning off body fat. Yes, you read that correctly… Walking is NOT effective at burning body fat and if your goal is fat loss you might be wasting your time. I am not saying that walking is not beneficial, I am saying that if fat loss is the primary goal, there are far better choices that will deliver far better results. The primary benefits of walking are increased blood flow and circulation, improved recovery, and a strengthened immune system. There are several reasons why walking in not the best choice when it comes to fat loss. Here are just a few: Walking does NOT burn a lot of calories The lower the intensity of the activity or exercise the smaller the number of calories burned per unit of time. For example, you can burn more calories in 15 minutes of bicycling at a high intensity level than you can in 45 minutes of easy walking. Walking does NOT result in a large increase in metabolism Another downside to walking is that because its generally low intensity it results in only a small increase in metabolism that will only last approximately 1-2 hours after the walk. On the other hand, metabolism increases are larger and last longer (4-24 hrs or more) when you perform high intensity cardio workouts. Walking does NOT deplete muscle glycogen Low intensity exercise like walking does not deplete muscle glycogen levels and therefore, later that day if you have excess calories they will likely be stored as body fat whereas if you deplete the glycogen the excess calories will primarily be stored in the muscles. So why then do so many fitness and health experts recommend walking for weight loss? One reason is that people dont want to hear that they have to work hard so they figure some activity is better than none. Another reason is that the body burns more fat for fuel when exercising at an easy pace, however, the total amount of energy used is so small that you end up burning off little body fat. Thats also why when you choose the fat burning program on your treadmill or bike it has you exercise at any easy level. Yes, youre burning fat, but so little that youd have to exercise at that easy pace for hours and hours each day. High intensity cardiovascular/aerobic exercise is much more effective in burning off the excess body fat. In fact, several studies have been done to prove this. In one study they compared one group who did moderate level aerobics for 45 minutes with another group who performed high intensity workouts for 15 minutes. They did before and after fitness testing including body fat analysis and found that the group who performed the high intensity aerobics lost nine times as much body fat! Want more proof? Compare the bodies of a walker, marathon runner, and sprinter. If you are not familiar with what a sprinters body looks like, it is very muscular and has little body fat while on the other hand the body of a walker will likely have the opposite, little muscle and more fat. The sprinter does little or no low intensity exercise and does primarily short hard bursts of work while the marathoner overtrains so much they burn off both the body fat and the muscle and thats why they tend to look almost sickly thin. So what should you do then if your main objective is to shed those excess pounds of body fat? Two things: Perform some form of high intensity cardio 2-4 times per week Stabilize blood sugar to minimize the storage of new fat I know some of you by now are saying I cant do high intensity exercise, I have a bad knee and dont worry, I have a solution for you. The good news is that high intensity is all relative to you and your current fitness level. For example, fast walking up and down hills may be high intensity for you… it all depends. So dont think that you have to start running or something like that. Just slowly start to increase the intensity of your cardio workouts while also maybe decreasing the time because you can either work hard or you can work long. Also, you can make almost any activity or exercise high intensity…. here are a few examples: increase your speed use an incline or hills increase resistance perform intervals ( the most effective method) Obviously, some exercises/activities or better suited than others but the point is if you want to burn more fat and make your workouts as productive as possible you need to increase the intensity. To learn more about high intensity cardiovascular exercise please check out the following articles: Forget the Fat Burn Zone - http://www.achieve-fitness.com/forget.htm In Search of the Ideal Aerobics Routine - http://www.achieve-fitness.com/ideal.htm Heart Rate Guidelines - http://www.achieve-fitness.com/cardio.htm Be sure to also check out my Burn Fat FAST! ebook and audio program here: http://www.burn-fat-fast.com - it covers everything from cardiovascular training to strength training to nutrition and more. As with any changes to your fitness program be careful and dont over do it. Just because high intensity workouts burn more fat, dont think that youll get even better results by doing it everyday - that will quickly lead to over-training and a loss of muscle which will only make it even harder to burn off the fat. So if your primary goal is fat loss, dont waste your time walking and instead focus on progressive, high intensity cardio to maximize the effectiveness of your workouts. Marketing in a 20% World

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Daniel Wadleigh This is a world in which bell curves are the norm. Twenty percent of an average sales force usually produces eighty percent of the volume. Eighty percent of taxpayers wait until the last two weeks to file. Even just three of the apostles were considered to be in the “inner court.” Well, it so happens that 20% of most customer bases do the majority of the most profitable sales activity. So, it behooves you to put the emphasis of your advertising and marketing efforts on them. This does not mean ignore the hump in the bell curve, but treat the “high rollers” special and with regularity. Methods of special treatment are also mentioned throughout this book. There are three proven measurements to keep aware of regarding your customer base. First, Recency. As described in “More Accountable Marketing,” the older the last visit, the colder the attitude. Newer customer visits are more likely to re-visit or re-order, especially if it’s a “special discount exclusively for our regular customers.” Second, Frequency. If they do business with you on a regular basis, they should be on the “A-list.” This obviously means that you have something that they want. Third, Gross Sales. The big spenders are also ones for the “A-list.” Advertising and promotion to them is always more cost-effective than any other list. All of this does not mean to ignore the fat part of the bell curve in your promotions. At least they have done some business with you at some time, and unless you irritated them, it’s still more cost-effective to promote to them than to first time customers. Look at your marketing as a mixture. Bring in some new ones (at least they replace the losses), draw more from occasional clients, and get fat off of the “A-list.” Daniel Wadleigh is a nationally published marketing consultant and has programs for start-up and existing businesses including effective web sites, e-mail/database, other non-internet ways to drive them to your website, and low cost ways to get more new customers. Steps You Can Take To Protect Your Financial Information and Personal Identity From Fraud

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jay_Fran]Jay Fran Financial fraud and identity fraud are one of the fasted growing forms of fraud. The first line of defense to protecting yourself begins with you. Here are some steps you can take to help you protect and fight against financial and identity fraud. 1. Review and Protect Your Information - The first line of defense in financial fraud is to periodically check your credit report to ensure all your information is accurate. Remember there are three credit agencies (Equifax, TransUnion, Experian) which all operate independently. Make sure you check your credit report from all three because they may each have different information. 2. Destroy Credit Card Mail Offers and Old Financial Documents - If you receive direct or pre-approved solicitations in the mail for new credit cards and do not use them make sure you shred or tear them up before throwing them away. In addition, shred all financial papers including cancelled checks, old bank account statements, or any document with your identity. 3. Watch Out For E-mail or Telephone Fraudsters - Never give your personal or financial information out on the internet or phone unless you initiated the contact. This is especially true with giving out your social security or credit card number. Watch out for e-mails from fraudsters that state they need your account information or credit card number to update your account with your bank or an online company like e-bay. Never give out personal information over e-mail! Many times these e-mails will have links for you to click on that take you to a website that looks authentic. However more times than not, it is a scam to get your personal and financial information. 4. Social Security Number Keep your social security number in a safe place with other financial documents. DO NOT carry your social security card in your wallet and remember to shred your old social security statements. It is also recommended to not store your social security number on your computer as hackers may have access to it. Never print your social security number on your checks, credit card or drivers licenses. 5. Incoming / Outgoing Mail - Pick up incoming mail promptly and do not send outgoing mail in your residential mail box. Make every effort to keep your mail as securely as possible when it leaves your house. 6. Monthly Bills If your monthly bills stop arriving, take action quickly. Notify the company right away. Also, review your monthly statements promptly and if you see charges or items on your bills that you do not recognize get them resolved immediately. 7. Credit Cards / ATMs - Report lost or stolen credit cards and ATM cards immediately. Be sure to carry the 1-800 numbers of your bank and credit card company in your wallet. 8. Age Matters - If you are over the age of 50 you are more likely to be targeted for financial fraud. Therefore, keep this in the back of your mind as you handle your daily tasks and personal information. Most analysts forecast financial fraud and identity thief to cause financial loss to hundreds of thousands people in the next five years and beyond. While fraudsters are very slick and you can never be 100% safe the steps above can assist in you significantly deterring yourself and family from being a victim. Enjoy Food And Lose Weight!

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Nitin Chhoda It’s great to lose 20 lbs, but it can only happen 1 lb at a time. Small steps lead to big gains (or losses) over a period of time. This is obvious in the management of one’s own body weight. But things are getting harder, because we are getting heavier. What has caused the growing endemic of obesity in the west? The answer - Our lifestyle. We are beginning to pay a health price for the luxuries we enjoy. We find ourselves in a position where material wealth and professional recognition matter more than the simple pleasures of life. Food is one of them. We like food that tastes good and is easy to prepare. In the supermarket, we go the distance by reading nutrition labels, but generally gravitate towards the foods we love the most. Acquired tastes are hard to overcome. This article is not about giving up your favorite foods, but looking at the art of eating in a different way. This will help unlock your weight loss potential, and open up a whole new world of food enjoyment. OUR APPROACH TOWARDS FOOD. Small changes have big payoffs, especially with eating. Let’s take a humble lesson from the French. They have a simple strategy Enjoy your food rather than gulping it down. Chew it slowly and savor every bite. Pause between beats and concentrate on the taste, texture, flavor and consistency of food. Being undistracted (not reading the newspaper, talking on the phone, watching TV) and swallowing slowly promotes digestion and contributes to a feeling of fullness. This is the art of food enjoyment. FOOD AND STRESS. When in stress, the most common coping mechanism is food. Sounds familiar? Boredom, fear, anxiety and excitement are all triggers for food. Other causes like eating on the run, availability of fast-food makes it easier to cheat. Isn’t it surprising how easy it is to grab a burger and soda (not real’ food) and eat it on the run? Would it be as hard to buy steamed vegetables, grilled meat and a glass of sparkling water? PACE DOES MATTER. Eating slowly has unique benefits. The presence of taste buds on the tongue means that it is important to eat small bites. This allows the brain to recognize the taste of the food and relish it. The slower you eat, the more you enjoy your food. As a bonus, you consume less food due to increased satiety. Ask yourself - When was the last time you savored food? Do you remember your last meal? If so, what was it, and can you describe the taste in vivid terms? If the answer is no, then its time to relearn the art of food enjoyment. Focusing on our food involves sitting down at a table (don’t stand and eat). Take 30-45 seconds to enjoy the sight and smell of the food before you begin. Take small bites. Chew slowly and sip water regularly. Enjoy the food and take at least 20 minutes to complete your meal. Do not distract yourself with other activities while eating. This means none of the following television, business, reading or talking on the phone. Sit down and enjoy your meal. When food is viewed as a source of relaxation and refueling (instead of an inconvenience), everything starts to fall into place. The correct eating habits will help you to get more results by helping your mind, body and soul. Marching Ants

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Josh Riverside Marching ant effect is an animated technique in Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or GIMP that is identified by a moving dotted line border along a selected image. Marching ant technique is also known as marquee selection. Since the moving dotted line looks like a number of ants marching along the border, hence, the name marching ants was given. The marching ant effect helps the user identify the selected image by animating the border. The marching ant technique was developed by Bill Atkinson and was first implemented on Mac Paint formerly known as Mac Sketch. Bill Atkinson developed this technique in the year 1983 when he was trying to add more tools to the palette of Mac Sketch, the graphic application software of Macintosh. He was successful in adding a lot of tools to the software like, a rectangular selection tool and paint bucket tool. He wanted to develop a selection program. Bill Atkinson got his inspiration of developing the selection program of the marching ant technique from a Hamm’s Beer Sign board at an old beer and hamburger joint in Los Gatos. The signboard featured an animated waterfall and Bill realized that an animated border similar to this technique could solve the problem, as it would be easier to identify the selected image with the animated border no matter what the background was. Bill Atkinson then developed an animation by using alternating sequence of patterns of black and white, which looked like ants marching around the selected image. Marching ant technique is very useful when the user has to change or provide a different effect to one or more images in the picture. It identifies this image and with the help of other tools the user can change or alter the appearance of a selected image without disturbing the background of the original image. With the help of the marching ant technique one can alter, create, manipulate and enhance digital image files including photographs, computer generated images and scanned images. Ants provides detailed information on Ants, Fire Ants, Carpenter Ants, Ant Farms and more. Ants is affiliated with Cave Crickets. Simple First Kiss Tips: Easy To Learn First Kiss Tips For Teenagers & Men & Women Of All Ages

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Karin I Manning Your first kiss with a new partner is something that will stick in your mind for years to come. If it’s “The one” it will probably stick in your mind forever. It’s important that your first kiss be truly memorable for the right reason. When you meet a person you really like your first kiss is always going to be nerve wracking. It’s perfectly normal and, in fact, expected to have butterflies in the pit of your stomach when you first kiss someone you really are crazy about. Here are some simple first kiss tips and first kiss advice that will ensure your first kiss is truly magical. There are no hard and fast rules about who should kiss first. It’s more important to make sure it’s something you both want and that you are not in a rush when you do kiss for the first time. Your first kiss with a new partner should be done in private, and in an environment where you are less likely to be interrupted by any family and friends. It is important to remember that your first kiss with a new person may not be as smooth or as romantic as you would have liked. Your partner may not be a very good kisser first off. But that’s okay. You can take up the challenge yourself to teach your love interest the delightful art of kissing on a daily basis with these same kissing tips mentioned here. When you are thinking of making the move to a first kiss make sure you regularly brush your teeth and have either mint lollies or chewing gum always handy to ensure your breath smells fresh and tastes fresh and inviting. If you want your first kiss to be memorable for both of you make sure you are both sober to enjoy it. Your first kiss is the scariest. If you are nervous, chances are that your love interest is also nervous. You can tell a lot about a person about the way they kiss. It is important to build yourself up and to focus on enjoying your first kiss experience as soon as possible. Your first kiss together will be the most nerve wracking. After you get over the initial anticipation and onset of nerves you can then concentrate on making your kissing encounters as hot, sexy and delicious as possible. Chances are that seconds into your first kiss you will start to feel more relaxed and confident. Bear in mind that you don’t have to kiss anyone until they are 100 percent ready. There is no time limit. You are not Cinderella and you are not going to turn into a pumpkin if you haven’t kissed by midnight. Don’t let anyone pressure you into doing something that you are not ready for. Also, never kiss a person that you don’t feel is ready for your kiss. It’s much more exciting to build up the anticipation until you are both ready than risking rejection and being seen as too forward or pushy. While your first kiss together is fantastic, it’s all the kisses that follow that will make your pulse race, your heart stop and take your breath away. Remember that in time your memories fade but the memory of your first kiss together will linger forever. You may remember what you were wearing or how they smelt or what you both ate. But what you will definitely remember is the feeling you had all through your body when your lips touched theirs and you shared your first intimate moment together. Wait! Don’t give up your dream of becoming a better kisser. You can become the best kisser they’ve ever had and get free first kiss tips. Effective List Management Can Save You Big

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Joy Gendusa Lets talk about how to keep your postage costs down. So far you have been following my advice and mailing to the same list more than once. At some point you find lists that will produce returns continually, but you notice that you are receiving more returns than when you started mailing to those lists. You may see things like “Undeliverable as Addressed” or “Forwarding Order Expired.” Every time you mail to an address and that prospect has moved or cannot be found for any reason, you have just paid for the postage with no possibility of getting a response. Obviously it is a pretty big waste of money to continue to mail to this address, but what do you do about it? You could simply go into the list of names that you have purchased and delete the returns. No more bad addresses, no more wasted postage, right? That is one option but there is a better way to handle the situation. The US Postal Service has an NCOA (National Change of Address) System that a limited number of companies are licensed to access. These companies are able to take the list that you have purchased, or compiled yourself, and check it against the USPS system. You will receive a report that will let you know if anyone on your list has moved, gone out of business, or even if the zip code that contact was in was changed by the Post Office itself. Along with the report you will receive a new copy of your list that has been cleaned and updated. The cost for having your list checked is very economical (about $5.00 per thousand records) and will allow you to keep getting your message out to as many people in your list as possible. At times you can see up to a 10% undeliverable rate, and it can even be higher on older lists that you have been using for a while. Average is more like 5% undeliverable so lets take a look at the numbers at that rate. If you mail 10,000 and get 5% back for bad addresses: 10,000 x .05 = 500 pieces. You will have paid postage on 500 pieces that did not reach their destination. So if you mail to your list again without cleaning it you have just wasted: 500 x $0.23 = $115.00. If you were to NCOA that list at a rate of $5.00 per thousand you would have spent: 10 x $5.00 = $50.00. So you have three choices when faced with a list that needs cleaning: 1. Spend hours deleting every return that you receive from your list. 2. Waste $115.00 or more in postage every time you mail to that list. or 3. Have the list checked by an NCOA service and get back in touch with customers that may have moved, for around one tenth the cost. The NCOA service is the easiest and most effective way to keep your postage costs down. Joy Gendusa founded PostcardMania in 1998; her only assets a computer and a phone. Making Compost Quickly

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Anthony Tripodi You don’t need a compost bin to compost. In fact, your yard doesn’t even need you to compost. If you let the leaves fall from the trees and just left them there, eventually they’d decompose all by themselves. But if you want to use compost in your vegetable garden or flower bed as a natural fertilizer or to improve drainage or to get one of the many other benefits of compost, you’ll want a lot of it and fast. Waiting for nature isn’t a very practical way to get compost. If you want your yard waste and kitchen scraps to decompose quickly, you’ll need to do a few things to speed up the process. First off you’ll need a compost bin. Sure a compost bin isn’t necessary to make compost but it will help make it faster. A pile of yard waste will decompose quicker if it has some depth. Four foot squared (Four feet high, four feet wide and four feet deep) is a great size to get your compost cooking. The ratio of greens to browns is important too for quick composting. You should try to get you greens (grass clippings, kitchen scraps, coffee grinds) to browns (fallen leaves, hay, shredded newspapers) ratio somewhere close to 1:20. This ratio is also best for preventing a smelly bin. Keep your compost wet. You don’t want it soaked but you also don’t want it too dry either. You’re going for a slightly damp feeling. If it rains once or twice a week, then you probably won’t have to add any more water. Mix your compost. This is hard work but it’s one of the best tips for making compost quickly. Get your pitch fork and just start turning the contents of your pile over at least once a week. Compost will happen on it’s own if you let it. Things will decompose and break down all by themselves. But if you follow these tips you can definitely make compost quicker than mother nature can. When Anthony Tripodi isnt gardening, hes usually taking pictures of compost and writing about it on his blog, http://compostbin.blogspot.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anthony_Tripodi http://EzineArticles.com/?Making-Compost-Quickly&id=441963 buy tramadol online no prescription pharmacy online tramadol tramadol purchase without prescription tramadol online

Immigration Attorneys

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Eric Morris An attorney is a person who advises his clients on legal matters and represents them in the courts of law. A US immigration attorney deals with issues concerning foreign nationals who enter the U.S either temporarily or permanently. Their line of work involves everything associated with the legal rights, duties, and obligations of foreigners in the United States. Immigration attorneys also deal with the application process and procedures involved in neutralizing foreigners who want to become US citizens. They deal with legal issues related to refugees or asylees, people who cross US borders illegally and people that illegally transport these people. American immigration law is very complicated. It is constantly changing. An immigration lawyer will be able to help with issues such as obtaining a U.S. work visa or other type of visa or a green card. They are also able to assist on issues concerning naturalization, immigrating to the US for education, adopting a child from another country, gaining asylum in the US and other immigration matters. Consulting an immigration attorney ensures that a clients immigration matters are handled in the best way possible. Immigration attorneys keep themselves updated about the changing rules and regulations of American immigration law. An immigration law attorney can help a person overcome and avoid many legal issues. In certain cases, lawyers only guide their clients and provide the basic legal consultation, which the client can afford. Most often, in such cases, lawyers do not represent their clients in court. Organizations like the American Bar Association have gladly accepted the concept although this practice is still controversial in some segments of the legal fraternity. A person can find names of immigration lawyers specializing in immigration law in the Internet yellow pages. Alternatively, state Bar Associations can also provide referrals. The INS employees at the local office may also assist immigrants. Immigration provides detailed information on Immigration, Immigration Lawyers, Canadian Immigration, Immigration Attornies and more.
