Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Richard Romando Generalized anxiety disorder is the most common type of anxiety disorder in which a person experiences excessive worry, tension and anxiety in almost all the work that he does. Although there is no laboratory test that suggests generalized anxiety disorder, diagnosis is done when this excessive anxiety continues at least half a day for six months or more than six months. Researchers suggest that this disorder is more common in women than in men. The anxiety becomes so excessive and chronic that it starts interfering in their normal daily activities. An individual with generalized anxiety disorder may worry about health, family, money, job, career or house. They are aware of their intense feelings and want to overcome it but the anxiety prevents this and they are able to do little about it. Many a time, there is no cause for the worry or anxiety and the person realizes that these are irrational. He loses interest in life and becomes listless. Individuals suffering from generalized anxiety disorder tend to tire easily, suffer from lack of concentration, depression and inability to sleep. Physical symptoms include sweating, headache, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, stomach upset, flushes, trembling, frequent need to urinate and muscle tension. The person also experiences lightheadedness and breathlessness. Some people have fluctuations in mood from hour to hour and some have different levels of anxiety on different days. Ninety per cent of the people who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder have a history of depression, social anxiety, drug abuse or alcohol abuse. The reasons for this type of anxiety are not always apparent, but there is a consistent feeling of anxiousness and worry. The causes for the generalized anxiety disorder may also include genetic factors. This disorder may begin early or later in life. Anxiety provides detailed information on Anxiety, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Anxiety Treatment, Depression and Anxiety and more. Anxiety is affiliated with Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms. The History of Beef Jerky

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Tommy Stabosz Jerky was first introduced by the South American (Peru) native tribe called the Quechua (part of the ancient Inca Empire) in 1550. The product (Ch’arki), was boned and defatted meat (deer, elk, or buffalo) cut into slices and rubbed with salt. This meat was rolled up in the animal’s hide for 10-12 hours and then sun dried or smoked over fires. In South America, the Native Americans ate sun-dried venison and buffalo called tassajo, which was made with strips of meat dipped in maize flour, sun and wind dried, and then tightly rolled up into balls. North American Cree Indians mixed berries and suet (fat) with pounded cooked meat and pressed into concentrated small cakes to make pemmican. Biltong came from pioneering South African forefathers who sun dried meat while traveling across the African subcontinent. Folklore has it that African tribesmen would place strips of venison under the saddles of their horses to tenderize and spice the meat! Seasoning became a blend of vinegar, salt, sugar, coriander and other spices. The Indians and early settlers dried meat primarily from deer, elk or buffalo using salt, whatever spices they had and sun drying. As the Spanish arrived, the name evolved to charqui. Most travelers preferred to pound the charqui between large stones and boil it in water before eating. During ocean exploration and colonization, the Spanish sailors stocked the pacific islands with goats. What couldn’t be eaten would then be cut into strips and hung in their ships to air dry. When the Spanish Conquistadors invaded the Americas, they were surprised to see the natives of North America drying meat as well. Soon, the natives adopted the Spanish term, Charqui, only adding their accent; the word jerky first came to be. North American Pioneers would first dry meat by hanging it on the outside of their covered wagon sun drying (2-3 days). Another method was to build a scaffold over a slow fire and smoke the strips. While the heat and smoke would complete the process in half a day, the smoking method required a stopover; it wasnt long before awareness for disease and germs became prevalent and smoking became the norm. Today jerky is made from thin strips of virtually any meat or from ground or chopped and formed meat. Manufacturers spice and dehydrate the product; some introduce smoke or using liquid smoke for flavoring. Arranging a Date: 10 Good Tips for You

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Alex Carter 1. The first and most important thing to remember when arranging a date is that you need to arrange the details right away. The longer you wait then the longer of an opportunity you give to forget or let the moment fall, or even worse, let someone else swoop in and take over! 2. This obviously doesnt go in order, but once you have arranged the date and are about to embark on your journey, dont be late! Being a few minutes tardy is one thing, but being flat out late is quite another. It gives a bad impression of you and that is hard to get over. 3. Ask yourself and your date if your location for the date is acceptable for a first date or for them in particular. Dont get too crazy with the place you have arranged for your first date, if you are typical or unimaginative with this first date, that is okay. 4. Before you go to far with the plans or get too close to the date, make sure that transportation has been discussed in arranging the date. Some are uncomfortable with being picked up at home on the first date or riding together period, so agree on these principles quickly. 5. It may sound boring, but arranging a date (especially a first date) that has to do with dinner and a movie is easy and doable. You can be creative with your ideas later, make sure you do something that allows you to talk a little and then something that doesnt involve a lot. It is important to see how people react in both situations. 6. Be extremely courteous and thoughtful when taking into account when to alert someone if you will be late or not be able to make it at all. This may not seem like it has a place here, but arranging a date is everything that happens before the date actually begins! 7. While everybody has their own sense of style and flair, a first date may not be the place to display your most outrageous ensembles. When you are arranging the date in your head or preparing in your home, keep this in mind. 8. Make sure that when you are personally arranging the date in relation to what you need to do that you take your clothes to the cleaners or wash and iron them. A sense of style is one thing, but an unkempt slob impresses absolutely nobody. 9. You may enjoy fine dining and dont mind dropping a C-Note on dinner, but understand that this doesnt necessarily impress people. Pick something that is more mainstream, popular, and well known where almost anybody could find something to eat or be comfortable (i.e. Chilis or TGI Fridays, etc.). 10. Make sure that you dont go somewhere that you have been known to go overboard with drinking alcohol. Arranging a date can be a way for you to make sure you avoid your normal dating pitfalls. The Sweet Side Of Hair Removal: Sugaring

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Kathy Hammond There are a number of hair removal methods available today. The most recent and modern is hair removal by laser treatments. But - Hair removal by laser treatments is also the most expensive of all hair removal methods and contrary to anything you may have heard or read in the past, laser treatments are not a form of permanent hair removal and do cause some unfortunate side effects, including scarring. As a laser hair removal alternative, many people have chosen to wax their hair from different parts of their bodies. But unfortunately for some, even though they prefer the process, waxing can cause unpleasant side effects as well. Sugaring is an alternative for people who have had unpleasant skin reactions such as redness or bumps with waxing hair removal. One of the oldest hair removal methods, sugaring originated in ancient Egypt and continues to be very popular in Middle Eastern countries. Although recent research reveals that females the world over practice sugaring as their chosen method of hair removal. The hair removal method of sugaring is most often used for legs, bikini lines, and eyebrows (to be done only by a professional), but it is suitable for any part of the body, including the genital area. Sugaring resembles the hair removal method of waxing, in that a warm mixture is slathered on the skin and then quickly removed, basically pulling hairs out by their roots. Sugaring is supposedly a less painful hair removal method than waxing … Because the sugar paste adheres only to the hair, not the skin as with waxing. And because you roll it in your hands first, it can never scald the way a hot wax can. A mixture of sugar, lemon juice, and water, heated to form a syrup, sugaring is hypoallergenic and an ideal hair removal method for sensitive skin. But do test a small area first just to be sure you don’t have an allergic reaction. Skin irritations are further reduced from sugaring hair removal because the sugar mixture wraps around the hairs and pulls them out by the roots leaving no stubble. You get super smooth skin. Regrowth is slow so this method of hair removal lasts a few weeks, which is comparable to how long laser treatments last and so makes it a good laser hair removal alternative. Today there are sugaring hair removal kits that have the proper proportions of sugar, lemon and water already combined. All you need to do is warm the sugaring mixture by placing it in hot water. When it becomes spreadable, simply apply it in the direction your hair grows, cover with cotton strips, allow it to cool and then pull the strips in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Or - You can make your own sugaring hair removal mixture. Good for 2 - 3 sessions, this recipe includes ten rounded tablespoons sugar, one half of a lemon squeezed, (taking care not to include any pulp), and 1 tablespoon water. Mix these all together in an old saucepan and stir until it’s completely smooth. Stir constantly over the lowest heat. At first the sugar will become transparent and air bubbles will appear. Then the mixture will turn a golden brown and smell like caramel. Allow to bubble for about 10 minutes until much smaller air bubbles appear on the surface. Remove the pan from the heat and allow to cool a bit. If it looks and feels like syrup, allow to cool a little longer. When the substance no longer sticks to your fingers, it’s ready. For the best results, the hairs should be short. Pull the skin that you’re going to treat taut and spread the sugaring paste onto it in the direction the hair grows. Then pull it back in one stroke. Once the sugaring hair removal process is complete, you’ll feel sticky from what you didn’t remove with your hands. A hot shower will take care of this because the paste is water soluble and warm water will easily melt and wash it away. It’s also a good idea to rinse the area with cold water to calm and tone the now agitated skin. Sugaring hair removal is efficient and easy to clean up afterward. But, regardless which type of application you choose to use, it can be quite time consuming and messy. If hair removal by sugaring doesn’t sound like the laser hair removal alternative method for you, there are a number of other alternatives. Do some research and you’re bound to discover a much more simple way to make hair removal sweet. Silk Wedding Flowers are the New Wedding Flowers

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Charlena Stadelman If you are getting married soon, you are going to find out that silk wedding flowers are the new and improved flower to have at any wedding. Hardly any brides will use real flowers anymore. This is because the silk flowers will last longer, and they can be used over and over after the wedding is over and done with. This is a great reason to use silk flowers, and they will stay looking pretty even weeks after the wedding. You are also going to find that the bouquet the bride carries down the aisle are all being made from silk wedding flowers as well. This is an excellent idea, because then the bride will have the bouquet for many years after her wedding to remind her of the flowers she carried on that special day. Once the wedding is over, and you and your husband go home together, you will find that your silk wedding flowers will look pretty and remind you of your special day while you spread them all over the house. Putting a bouquet in each room will bring back memories of not too long ago when you walked down the aisle. You can also take a few of the flower petals and add them to your wedding scrapbook as well. This is a great idea for preserving those wedding day memories. It has also been heard of that wedding cakes have been decorated with the silk wedding flowers as well. Not only the church your getting married in, but the cake that you will eat and serve your guest at your wedding. Of course the flowers can not be eaten, but they will make your wedding cake very pretty, and make your special day even more enjoyable. You may even find that you will want the flower girl to drop silk wedding flowers as she is walking down the aisle on your wedding day. This will save you some money when you are paying for wedding expenses, and the flowers will be gorgeous even tho they are made of silk. None of the guest will be able to tell the difference, and you will love the flowers that are dropped down the aisle just the same. As you can see, the silk wedding flowers are sweeping across the states and becoming the new thing for wedding flowers. While they are a little more affordable, you will also find that they are quite practical, as well. Everyone will love your wedding flowers that match the colors of your wedding, and so will you. How To Choose The Right Wedding Photographer To Get The Best Wedding Pictures

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Gregg Hall Everyone wants their wedding to be perfect, from the cake to the flowers. It takes a lot of time and planning to pick the perfect dress and tuxedo and the caterer. It’s a day that will last in your memory for a life time and to keep that memory fresh, it’s important to choose the right photographer. When you budgeted your wedding, you might not have realized how expensive photographers can be. Some of them charge by the hour and for distance traveled. Before you book with the first one you come across, do a lot of research. Many photographers offer different packages, so that they can stay within most price ranges. Naturally, the lower priced packages will include fewer pictures. Other factors involved are the size of the pictures and whether you want them in black and white. Go over all of the packages that the various photographers offer and decide what pictures you can do without. Do you really need the photographer to follow you around and capture every second? This will help you save a lot of money. Another important thing to consider is how many copies you want. Many couples like to have a small picture to include in thank you cards. There are also both sides of the family to consider as well as friends, so make sure you have an accurate figure in mind when ordering the number of copies. You will also have to choose how long you want the photographer. There are many pictures to be taken of the bride and groom and the wedding party. This should take about 90 minutes, so make sure you choose a package that will include enough time with photographer. When you choose your photographer, you want the best one available. Get referrals from friends or family members. This can provide a measure of comfort. Make an appointment to see several photographers and be sure to view their work. Don’t just look at the portfolio of their best work. Ask to see pictures that are not included in the portfolio, so you can get a better sense of their work. Once the day is gone, it’s gone forever so you only get one shot at the pictures. Take your time and don’t be pressured into buying their services until you are sure that they are going to do the best job for you. Despite doing the best research and choosing the most recommended photographer, there’s always the chance that something can go wrong. This is where wedding insurance comes in. Since wedding pictures are so expensive, having the insurance will protect you in case the pictures are flawed, because you won’t have to pay the photographer. It’s good to have this insurance because no matter how well you plan, there’s always the chance that something could go wrong. You might suffer from not having pictures of your special day, but at least you won’t have to pay ones that are not what you wanted. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Wedding Photography - 6 Shots you Need in Your Photo Album

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Cori Locklin As you plan your wedding photography, remember to think about the specific shots you want in your wedding album. While the typical posed shots are pretty and will guarantee that all important friends and family members are photographed, sprinkling your wedding album with some unique images will ensure you will cherish your photos for years to come. Browse our favorite ideas for creative photography shots. Try these special photo opps for images that will shine through the formal poses, capturing the true emotions of the day. The Big DayThis is the day you have been carefully planning for months, and a lot of preparation is involved. Have your wedding photographer on hand as you primp and the excitement steadily builds. These behind-the scenes-shots at the salon, your parents’ house or dressing room will record the nervous joy and anticipation. This is the day; your wedding photography should capture the poignancy of these special moments. Black and white film works perfectly here. The DressYou may only wear it once, but this gorgeous compilation of silk and lace is a work of art. Your wedding photographer should capture the masterpiece in all its glory. The perfect way to reveal its essence is to photograph it in its element. Hanging in a window in the dressing room with the sunlight pouring in, your dress will reveal its natural beauty. Mom and Dad - Letting GoYour wedding is an emotional day for your parents. They feel a mixture of pride, joy and sadness. Their little girl/boy is all grown up and entering a new stage in life. Capture these emotions and conflicting feelings during the wedding ceremony and throughout the day. Especially make sure your photographer takes a shot of each of them as they focus on you during the ceremony. Even though you won’t be watching them as you exchange “I Dos;” these precious images will capture the full force of their emotions. Just MarriedOn this busy day, there may be only a few moments when the two of you can steal away and spend time together. But just after you are pronounced “man and wife,” the two of you will just have each other. Married at last! Your wedding photographer should not miss those first few moments as a married couple. Try to give yourself a few minutes alone after the ceremony to relax and reflect the significance of the occasion. You will cherish these photos in your wedding album. Candid Bridesmaids and GroomsmenYour girlfriends. You have laughed together and cried together and shared the gauntlet of emotions together. The images from your wedding day should reflect that special bond that only the best of girlfriends can share. While the line of bridesmaids is a good shot to have in your album, you should capture some more creative photography shots for your photo album. Make sure some of your shots reveal the vibrant personalities of you and your girls. Have your photographer capture the giggles, the private whispers and the carefree hugs and exclamations, for this is the true essence of your friendships. And don’t forget the boys; get some creative shots of the groomsmen too! Away into The SunsetGet a parting shot of the two of you walking towards your “ever after.” One of my favorite versions of this shot: the two of you photographed from a distance, looking towards the horizon. Dressing The Ladies At Your Wedding

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Lesley-Ann Graham At the wedding, the stars of the show are the bride and groom (as it should be). After all, it is their special day. Still, some care should be taken to appropriately dress the friends who you’ve chosen to be part of your event. It is quite common for the bride to choose colors for the ladies gowns that matches the theme she has chosen. Usually brides put them all in identical outfits, usually in pastel shades (lilac, puce, yellow, anyone?) since that is what her dream wedding looks like in her mind. Heaven forbid anyone who outshines the bride! Ladies, have mercy on your friends and let your taste and love for them shine through. They are meant to be a foil to your beauty and to show that your beauty is found in your friends too. If you have a specific color you’d like to use, then why not let the styles of their dresses vary a little, make each tailored to suit each dear friend best. Dressing your ladies to look their best within the theme you’ve set will make them love you even more. Keep in mind that at your wedding they are also on display, and may actually meet their match at your event. She actually wants to be as beautiful as you do but has no intention of stealing your thunder. Here’s a thought: when you go to your dress designer, bring your bridesmaids with you (yes, this includes the maid of honor) and let them help choose their gowns. You still have final say, but they get to add a personal touch or two. You create a memory to treasure with your friends this way and leave them a special souvenir of your nuptials. Eyelid Plastic Surgery

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Margaret Wommack Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat, skin and muscle from the area around the eyes. As people age, their skin loses elasticity, they accumulate more fat and their muscles lose tone. This aging process can make the arms or stomach or breasts sag, but on the face this loss of tone and elasticity can make you look tired, angry, upset, sick and much older and can even impair vision. Eyelid surgery can be frightening because complication risks, like infection, involve the eyes and your vision. However, a vast majority of people who have undergone eyelid surgery are happy that they did so. As with most cosmetic procedures, patients undergoing eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) are given either general anesthesia, which will require a longer stay at the medical facility and a person to take care of the patient for 24 hours following surgery, or they are given local anesthesia and a sedative, so they are awake but they cannot feel the area being operated on and they are much calmer about the procedure because of the sedative. Blepharoplasty can be done on either the upper or lower eyelids or all four. The variation will determine the length of the surgery. In eyelid surgery, tiny incisions are made along natural creases in the upper eyelid and below the lash line on the lower eyelids. The skin of the eyelid is then separated from the fat deposits and muscle so the fat can be removed. Depending upon the patient, the skin and muscle can then be trimmed as well before they are sewn back together. Recovery can be uncomfortable because of the swelling associated with any surgical procedure which will, in this case, dry out the eyes and sometimes prevent them from comfortably closing fully before the swelling goes down. Blepharoplasty does not remove wrinkles, dark circles or a sagging brow. For this reason, eyelid surgery is commonly performed in conjunction with other facial cosmetic procedures such as brow lifts. Arthritis - New Hope from Green Tea

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Kevin Woodward As anyone who has — or knows someone who has — Rheumatoid Arthritis, it can prevent the sufferer from leading a normal life. It is a condition of unknown cause that can vary in intensity from a short, self-limiting illness to a long term, progressively worsening illness. Initially, treatments are light, aiming to remedy joint stiffness and inflammation. In the chronic cases, the inflammation can become worse, requiring a whole range of treatments including steroids, joint replacement and fusion ok bones. The joints of the body can become deformed and strength dwindles, leaving the sufferer unable to open even a bottle of milk or turn on a tap. You have good days and you have bad days. “You are what you eat” is a clich, but very true. Certain foods are thought to exacerbate Rheumatoid Arthritis, for example, dairy produce. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs predominantly in developed countries where a large part of the diet is animal and the aforementioned dairy produce. Even if someone is only mildly allergic to dairy, this can cause antioxidant levels to fall, antibodies are produced in response and these, for whatever reason, attack the joints. So keeping a diary of foods may help to pinpoint what triggers the bad days. So, if food seems to be the trigger, reducing dairy foods and increasing antioxidants in your diet may help. But how to get more antioxidants? The tastiest ways are probably to eat plenty of fresh vegetables and drink a few cups of green tea each day. Why is green tea better than ‘normal’ tea? The tea that most westerners are used to is black tea. Whilst that is a better for you than coffee, it is not as beneficial as green tea. The reason? Black tea has been fermented; green tea has not, thus leaving the key chemicals intact. But what evidence is there that green tea can actually benefit Arthritis sufferers? Studies in mice suggest that green tea antioxidants may have a powerful effect in reducing the incidence and severity of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Polyphenols (antioxidants found in green tea) possess much more potent antioxidant activity than well-known antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E. A research team from Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio has focused on the effect of these polyphenols in Rheumatoid arthritis. Mice studied by the Cleveland researchers were fed either plain water or water enriched with green tea polyphenols. The doses were about equivalent to a human drinking 3-4 cups of green tea per day. Each of the mice was then injected with collagen, making them vulnerable to a condition very similar to human Rheumatoid Arthritis. The study indicated that the mice who had been given the green tea polyphenols “were significantly less susceptible to the development of collagen-induced arthritis, and if they developed arthritis, the disease was late in onset and mild in comparison to mice not given green tea polyphenols”. (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 1999;96:4524-4529). There are other benefits too - in another study in the US it has been shown that drinking at least one cup of green tea per day can reduce the risk of heart attack by 44%. This health benefit is thought to come from flavanoids, a type of antioxidant found in all types of tea. Flavanoids are thought to neutralise the effect of free radicals, highly reactive molecules that travel round the body causing damaging chemical reactions to cells, including those in the heart tissues. A previous Dutch investigation of more than 800 men between 65 and 84 showed that drinking even more tea - between three and four cups a day - decreased risk of death from coronary heart disease by 58%. In 1991 there were just 153 studies on tea, while in 1998 there were 625 published papers. In a Japanese study, tea without sugar has been found to be good for teeth and gums. Tea contains tannin fluoride which appears to help prevent plaque. “An increase of just one cup a day could prove invaluable in the fight against gum disease,” said the British Dental Health Foundation Kevin Woodward looks after the In Nature web site at http://www.in-nature.com/teas/ which offers top quality Chinese teas and herbs for sale securely online. Memberships are available which entitles you to discounts on the products and a free health consultation, the latter is based on traditional Chinese medicine.
